The work at the new Project Centre in Latriya has now started.
The team successfully conducted the first baking and cooking tests with the solar cookers and parabolic mirrors, with very appetising cakes as a result. Since it was also cashew nuts season, the solar cookers were used to first dry numerous cashew fruits and then roast the nuts. They've been packed up and now we are looking for a market to sell them. Our goal is to convince the women in the region that they can also dry their fruits in this way, since most of them discards the valuable fruit and keeps only the nuts. Latriya is a village full of cashew plantations and it is worth to invest in this point. For the future, we are also trying to promote a better way of roasting the nuts and thereby save a lot of the firewood that is used now.
In parallel to the baking and cooking tests we had a retreat at the Centre focusing on the work with the neighbouring communities. The communities were grouped into categories like children, women, men and official representatives in order to be better able to focus on each of them. It was intensive, exciting and successful. Even the Village Chief joined us to listen to our strategy. He was positively impressed and committed his support to our work, an important signal for us and the village.
Now, the team is busy with the first summer break activities for students, with courses and other actions focusing on environmental protection, proper waste disposal and solar energy.
